THE UNLIKELY ADVENTURES OF MABEL JONES

Excited! This book finally came out last week and it's one of the most adventurous, exhilarating and funniest books I've worked on. Written by the very humorous Will Mabbitt and illustrated by the rather amusing Ross Collins, those of you who dare read it will not be disappointed.

What makes this story such a hoot are the characters – from a nose-picking Mabel to a sword-bearing bear called Bartok. In fact, Bartok is my favourite and I have sneakily asked the author if he will do a spin-off story for Bartok. I will wait with baited breathe. If you agree, let's start a petition. BARTOK! BARTOK! BARTOK!

Now that my campaigning is out of the way, I can tell you a little bit about the insides of this book. They were especially fun to design – highlighting and animating words and making the illustrations wiggle and weave around the text adding another dimension to the storytelling. I really hope you all enjoy those aspects because they took me ages!

YIKES! That is one scary moment for Mabel Jones. If you want to see more, you're going to have to buy a copy and read it. But if you want a really fun little taster, check this trailer out. I'm afraid I can't take any credit for the making of this, but I think it's fab.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention. Published by Puffin Books.

CAROL ANN DUFFY: New and Collected Poems

Dennis the Menace's Diary

This has been a really fun project to work on – the inside pages of the cheeky and mischievous Dennis the Menace. The diaries tell various stories of Dennis' antics and is styled in a chaotic way which reflect his character – mucky fingerprints, ink splats, folded corners, ripped pages and doodles galore. The challenge with these kind of designs, is to also ensure that the messiness is legible and clear for it's young readers. I was therefore really chuffed to see this review on Amazon.
